Hello. My name is Dr. Benjamin Balmoris, Jr., an anesthesiologist and I work with your surgeon.
Why do you need an anesthesiologist?
If you are having an operation, your surgeon would want somebody like me who will help you through your operation. I have spent many years training in different countries (Philippines, Singapore, Australia) so that I can look after you before, during and after your operation. Surgery is a daunting experience for you that is why it is my job to make you comfortable and safe during your operation.
What does that mean for you?
Once surgery is scheduled, we will need to communicate as soon as possible. My goal is to work alongside your surgeon to get you through the procedure in the safest and most comfortable fashion. For this, I will need to assess you. Ideally, this should be done way ahead of surgery especially if you have multiple illnesses. This meeting will be beneficial for both of us. I will be able to get to know your health problems and explain to you your anesthetic options and risks, and you will be able to ask me anything about your anesthesia. I will then explain to you in detail the steps to your anesthetic choice.
Once inside the operating theater, you will then meet the rest of the anesthetic, surgical and nursing team. All of us are there to make your operation safe and successful. Monitoring will then be applied to ensure your safety throughout the procedure. After giving you your anesthetic choice, the surgeon will then perform the surgery. My job is to watch over you every single time to make sure you are comfortable and safe. Once the surgery is finished, I will then wake you up and send you to the post anesthesia care unit. Highly trained nurses will then look after you until you are fully awake and pain-free.
What do you need to do?
Every person is different. Preoperative assessment is crucial to make your operation safe and successful. That is why i would like you to complete the Preoperative health questionnaire. I need to know and understand your complete medical history so that I can formulate the best anesthetic options for you. Kindly complete this questionnaire as soon as you can.
What are the risks?
Risks and possible anesthetic complications will be discussed with you during our meeting. I will discuss the risks and complications from the most common to the rarest. This is an important information that all patients need to know and understand.
I look forward to providing you with a high level of personalized anesthesia care.
